Who I am - Benoit Paternoster

Who am I ?

My name is Benoit J. Paternoster. I graduated from Ecole des Mines in Paris in 1983 and completed my education by a MSc in geophysics at MIT.

I started working for Elf Aquitaine, first in borehole geophysics R&D (VSP’s, Xhole) and quickly moved to a Department dealing with geophysical operations and technical support to the affiliates or headquarter’s interpretation groups.

Buzz words for 30+ years were : quantitative seismic-to-well ties and wavelet estimation, Quantitative seismic QCs, attributes, amplitudes, AVO, seismic tuning and net-pay estimation, modelling, DHI’s. All techniques to be integrated with reservoir characterization studies, mostly for worldwide Exploration and prospect definition and risking. Integration was performed in various business contexts ranging from acreage capture, prospect identification, fast-track appraisal to post-well analysis, within a variety of Joint Ventures.

I devised many dedicated workflows and software tools for the benefit of TotalEnergies geoscience community through regular or bespoke inhouse training sessions and via TotalEnergies propriatory interpretation software suite.

Technical support and quality insurance reviews as SME have given many opportunities for coaching and mentoring junior and specialized geoscientists.

Regular communications at professional conventions (EAGE, SEG, IPTC) have also represented a broader involvment with the geoscience broader community. You can found a list of them on my Communications’ Page.
